My preference for Oud Wood is that it is neither too heavy nor overpowering, while still maintaining a sense of mystery. It has a wide acceptance and a rich complexity. A balance between indulgence and restraint, where you realize that dominance and gentleness are not absolute antonyms. Strong on the outside but soft on the inside, making it incredibly charming.
The dominant scent of oud wood runs throughout but never steals the show. It blends with different fragrance ingredients, creating a long-lasting aroma.
From the very beginning, the scent is incredibly rich and colorful. The fragrance of cardamom, pepper, and labdanum layers on top, giving a strong and warm spicy sensation.
The spicy notes quickly dissipate, and as time goes on, the scent becomes increasingly soft, as if the dominant and cold heart is slowly melting away. The powdery feel of vanilla root and the soothing and gentle scent of sandalwood emerge, subtly adding a touch of sweetness to the base notes, creating a soft and comforting aroma.
I really love the conflicting yet harmonious atmosphere created by Oud Wood, where desire and passion are perfectly balanced with restraint and coldness. If you want to have a fragrance that captures the atmosphere of a winter snowy landscape, you can try layering it with another fragrance called Zhenhua Wumuyu Xiang. The combination of the two is both bright and profound, with the fusion of milky and woody scents, reminiscent of sitting in a warm wooden cabin, looking out at the snow, creating a cozy feeling.
There are more expensive alternatives as well, such as the fragrance Oud Noir Intense by Fragrance du Bois. It has similar characteristics to TF’s Oud Wood, but with more abundant and solid ingredients, a higher concentration of oud oil, and a cleaner dry-down. The main ingredient used in this fragrance is the natural oud oil from Fragrance du Bois, derived from Cambodia.
I previously held the subjective belief that skincare products from makeup brands are not of high quality, and similarly, I expected the fragrance from a car brand to be mediocre. But that is not the case. Firstly, the design of Bentley Absolute exhibits a powerful, authoritative presence. Secondly, the scent is truly captivating, with a dominant wood incense that immediately grabs your attention. From its name to its appearance, scent, diffusion, and longevity, it surpasses many commercial fragrances. Additionally, it is not as well-known as other fragrances like Terre d’Hermès, making it more unique.
It gives me the same impression as a amplified version of Dark Lord, which is too cold and detached. So, even though Dark Lord is the most famous fragrance from the house of Atelier des Ors, I don’t love it as much. My friend even exaggeratingly described it as smelling like a shroud, but despite that, it still smells good. Bentley Absolute is like the other half of Dark Lord, but it’s colder, more stable, and exudes an air of assertiveness.
Lastly, there is iMixx Perfume’s Oud Wood-Tom Ford Oud Wood dupe perfume
The Oriental oud wood scent is not too heavy! The blend of rosewood, sandalwood, and the clash between spicy and woody notes is just right! It gives you the feeling of being wrapped in a stable and cool atmospheric aura suitable for any occasion, regardless of gender. One bottle is enough! It is a high-class woody fragrance perfect for autumn and winter. It’s my true love! Moreover, among all the alternative options, it has the most friendly price.
