To Kilian, the making of perfume is like a blend of art and cognac production. In the making of cognac, the distiller blends “water of life” (Eau-de-vie made from grapes with great aging potential) with very strict standards. Similarly, when blending perfume, the perfumer mixes various fragrance materials and essential oils. However, Kilian’s process of making perfume is more about telling a story and infusing emotion into the fragrance.
“Love, Don’t Be Shy” is a fragrance that is primarily centered around a sugary floral gourmand accord, from start to finish.
As a lover of sweet scents, it is very appealing to me, reminiscent of the cotton candy ice cream sold in amusement parks on summer nights (there is a brand called “Cotton Candy” that sells purple ice cream, which used to be my favorite when I was a child, and it is associated with my memories of the galaxy, starry sky, and amusement parks, but unfortunately, I haven’t had it in many years). It combines the caramel coating of cotton candy with orange blossom oil, creating a light, soapy sweetness that is both warm and sweet, evoking a rush of adrenaline and pure comfort, a sweet that is both pure and captivating.
Most sweet gourmand fragrances have names related to love and desire, and this fragrance is no exception. I believe the name “Love, Don’t Be Shy” can be interpreted as “love that goes beyond the galaxy is even better when it is reciprocated,” “riding roller coasters and passionately kissing, exploring the entire universe together, is the most exciting and wonderful experience.”
